My Definition
The word geology originally comes from a greek word meaning the study of the earth. Geology is the science behind how the earth was made, what it was made of and how it changes. A Geologist is a type of scientist that studies the earth and the other topics of geology. The key ideas in geology is stone and rocks and the earth. There are three different types of rocks they are: Sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic. Every rock on earth will fit into one of these categories. Some rock structures and other earth structures have different meanings to different cultures and ethnicities. One of the ethnicities is Maori. Some of them believe that powerful presences and characters lived on mountain tops and in the deeps of lakes sculpted and arranged earth as we know it today. The maori's also have legends and myths about the formation of the earth, some examples of these are Maui and the sun, Maui and the magic fish hook and many others. Some other cultures have gods that protect different areas of the earth. Modern geology doesn't revolve around the different cultures, instead it provides evidence into the movement of the plate tectonics, evolutional history, climates and water issues and many other earth sciences. Geology is also used a lot more commercially in 21st century. Geology is very important to any working professions some of these are builders, miners, architects and jewellers. Without a knowledge of geology the world would not be like it is today.
